St Martins Care is passionate about caring for people with dementia. Specially designed environments have been created that are safe and engaging. Our in house training programme ensures that relevant staff are trained to QCF Level 2/3 in dementia care. We have dedicated activity co-ordinators for residents with dementia problems. Activity programmes are designed around real life pursuits such as cooking, gardening, cleaning and individual activity is identified through ‘Life Story Work’.
Our aim is to promote a positive care experience to ensure our residents continue to live fulfilled enjoyable lives with value, dignity and respect.
Dementia Nursing Care
We can also offer care to residents who have dementia and need nursing support from specialist nurses (Registered Mental Nurses). Residents with advanced stages of dementia often have physical health problems that require qualified nursing care. This specialist care is provided in the recently completed Maple Suite at Woodside Grange, Thorneby and Willow Green, Darlington.
Our learning disability support teams support a range of people with varying needs to live their life to the fullest. Promoting the health and wellbeing of Service Users with more complex learning and physical disabilities always ensuring personalised care and support is provided and tailored to each individual need.
We are committed to delivering person centered services which concentrates on truly getting to know each individuals needs and asperations involving their family, friends and other professionals. We also encourage and support individuals to access education, work and recreation opportunities within their local community.
Respite Care is available to individuals requiring a short break from home or convalescence after a treatment in hospital. It is also an option for those uncertain about moving to a care home permanently by offering them the opportunity to ‘experience’ daily life in a home.
At St Martin’s Care we deliver specialist care that support people with age related needs including dementia to live a full and happy life. We are committed to delivering person centered care and to achieve this we focus on really getting to know the person and the life they have lived enabling the care team to build their life story. Families and friends are also pivotal in providing information which enables us to get to know the person from their perspective and assist in developing their care and support plan.

Our nursing and dementia nursing services provide a high level of long term personal or nursing care for residents (such as aged, chronically ill or who suffer with dementia alongside a physical illness) and who are unable to care for themselves. Our nursing services provide care from Registered General Nurses at all times – including general and mental health trained nurses, who have special expertise in caring for people with dementia who require additional care needs, as well as providing care that requires more complex nursing interventions. Our nurses have assessment and management skills which strives to provide person centred care to all our residents as well as offering support and guidance to loved ones.
