Busting myths about careers in the care industry

With so many career choices available, the care industry is often a victim of many misconceptions that can put off those wanting to enter the industry. At St Martins Care we’re here to bust some common myths surrounding careers in the care sector, shedding light on the reality of opportunities, growth, and satisfaction.

Myth 1: You need previous experience

Did you know, a career in the care industry doesn't always require prior experience? At St Martins Care, we value a diverse range of skills and qualities in our team members.

Compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact are often considered more valuable than a CV.

For example, our Care Assistant roles require no previous experience. You can apply here.

Myth 2: There's no professional development or career progression

Another misconception is the idea that a career in the care industry offers limited progression opportunities.

In reality, here at St Martins Care, we actively promote professional growth and development. Our entry-level positions are stepping stones, and employees are encouraged to take part in additional training and education.

Our commitment to continuous improvement opens doors for career progression, allowing our staff to climb the ranks and take on more challenging and rewarding roles within St Martins Care.

Last year we increased our Trainee Nurse Associate program to 6 people with more planned for 2024.

Myth 3: Job satisfaction is questioned

One of the most common myths is that careers in the care industry lack satisfaction. The truth is quite the opposite.

Working in the care sector provides a huge sense of fulfilment as you directly impact the lives of those in your care. At St Martins Care we emphasise the importance of building meaningful connections with residents and fostering a positive and supportive work environment. Our employees often find immense satisfaction in knowing they make a difference in the lives of others every day.

There is also great satisfaction in knowing you are helping people's family members be cared for. Your work is letting family members feel at ease about their loved one's care.

Myth 4: There is limited specialisation

Some believe that a career in the care industry limits professional specialisation. However, our sector is so diverse, it offers many specialisations such as geriatrics, paediatrics, mental health, and more.

This diversity allows individuals to shape their careers according to their interests and expertise, providing a range of opportunities for growth and specialisation.

You can see the roles we are hiring for, here.

Myth 5: You only offer basic assistance

There's also a misconception that care roles involve only basic tasks. In reality, care professionals at St Martins Care are trained to provide all-around care. This includes emotional support, engaging activities, and personalised care plans, showcasing the varying nature of roles within our industry.

Working with St Martins Care

As we disregard these myths, it becomes clear that a career in the care industry is far from limiting.

St Martins Care not only welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds but also actively encourages an environment that promotes growth and job satisfaction.

So, if you're considering a career in care, forget about these misconceptions and embrace the fulfilling opportunities that await you in this rewarding role.
