Person-centred care
Dedicated care for complex needs
At St Martins Care, we’re dedicated to providing person-centred, specialist support that caters to a wide range of complex needs. We fully understand the unique challenges of caring for adults with learning disabilities, which is why our dedicated Learning Disability Units at Windermere Grange and Woodside Grange were created to provide compassionate, round-the-clock support tailored to each person’s specific requirements.
Our approach
Care for complex needs
Learning disability care is a type of care tailored specifically towards people with a range of learning disabilities. When it comes to learning disabilities, it’s important to understand that no two people are the same; even people with similar learning disabilities may require completely different types or levels of support. From specific things, such as socialising and staying active, to full-time complex care needs, our learning disabilities provision is tailored specifically around the individual needs of our residents.
Specialist support for all ages
Adults with complex learning disabilities often face unique challenges requiring specific support from trained professionals. At St Martins Care, we’re proud to provide specialist learning disability care to adults from the age of 18, supporting them to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Meet the team
An expert team of caregivers
From physical support to emotional and social development, our expert team understands the practicalities of supporting people with complex care needs. We understand that no two people are the same; while some people may require extensive 1-on-1 support, others might thrive when given more independence. Within our learning disabilities unit, our team is experienced in caring for people with a range of needs, providing tailored support designed just for them.
We’re also consistently exploring ways that we can invest in workforce development, ensuring that our team has access to the skills and knowledge to provide the highest level of care to our residents.
Supporting older residents
Responding to a growing need
Adults with learning disabilities often face unique challenges as they age, from declining physical and mental health to barriers to accessing specific services to keep them healthy. Within the UK in particular, there is a growing number of people with learning disabilities with ageing parents or caregivers. As these caregivers grow older, it becomes more likely that they will develop more complex needs of their own, highlighting a specific emerging need for specialist care for learning disabilities.
Dedicated service for older residents
At St Martins Care, our team are committed to providing specialist care for adults of all ages, and we’re constantly looking for ways we can improve our provision to best support these residents. Recently, we created a specialist service for our older residents, providing a range of facilities to meet their specific needs, including a communal lounge, kitchen, and dining room space as well as enhanced bathing facilities to meet the evolving needs of our older residents.
Supporting family and friends
We also understand that learning disabilities can be difficult for the family and friends providing care; that's why our dedicated Learning Disability Care provides both residential and respite care for adults of all ages, easing pressure on families and ensuring everyone is receiving the correct level of support.
We aim to create a holistic and supportive environment where adults with learning disabilities can thrive and lead meaningful, fulfilling lives.
