Angela’s Journey: From Community Care Assistant to Deputy Manager

At St Martins Care, we focus on continuously improving our staff and supporting them with career development.

Following her promotion to Deputy Manager at Washington Manor in February, we spoke to Angela about her career so far!

A career in care

Her journey started in 1998 as a carer in the community. Eager to develop and continue caring, she worked as a Care Assistant whilst attaining her NVQ Level 2 and Level 3, as well her certification in Safe Handling of Medication.

After taking time away from her previous care role to support her husband, she knew she wanted to return to the profession, leading her to join St Martins Care. Angela started working with us in 2020 as a Care Assistant, then was promoted to Senior Care shortly after. Recently, she has been promoted to Deputy Manager at Washington Manor!

Developing qualifications with St Martins Care

Since joining us, Angela has attained her NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, and also completed the People Moving and Handling Train the Trainer course. She also likes to help the staff learn new things on our digital systems. Angela is always caring for others!

Alongside the opportunities to build on her qualifications and knowledge, Angela has received support through her transition to Deputy Manager. Knowing help and advice is just a phone call away has been monumental in her journey, providing her with the confidence she needs to succeed.

Angela said, “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for St Martins Care!”

A lasting passion for care

Beyond the career progression opportunities, Angela feels like she still has something else to give to Washington Manor. Whether it is caring for residents, supporting our staff with their own journeys in care, or building relationships with residents, families and staff, Angela gives her all to her role and it is clear to see.

Making a lasting impact on the team at Washington Manor, the management team has lots of faith in Angela, and our CEO, Keith Milton says, “We are so proud of Angela and how she has been able to develop her career with us. Angela is such a caring person who always wants to look after and support everyone, residents and colleagues alike. We know she is going to be a really great deputy manager.”

Angela’s advice

When asked what advice she would give to someone starting a career in care, Angela shared, “Go for it! You will never know if you don’t try. A career in care is amazing and there are so many pathways. You are able to help so many people, including residents, their families and your work colleagues.”
