Clare’s Journey: Career Progression Through Continuous Development

At St Martins Care, we provide our staff with in-depth training programmes, as well as career progression opportunities.

Following her promotion to Quality Lead at Woodside Grange, as well as being awarded a distinction in her Level 4 Health and Social Care qualification, we spoke to Clare Whould about her journey at St Martins Care!

A change in career

Whilst on maternity leave, Clare decided that she wanted a change in career. As caring for people had always been a passion of hers, she decided to make the move to working in a care home.

Joining us in 2016 as a Senior Care Assistant, she enjoyed working on all of the residential floors, taking particular interest in our Sycamore Unit, which is a discharge to assess unit from the hospital. She found great job satisfaction in being able to support individuals to return home safely.

Career progression

In 2022, Clare was offered a new position as a Quality Lead, a role where she would work closely with the management team at Woodside Grange, offering support to our residential units. This is a role she is particularly passionate about as she is able to offer support to staff, residents, and their loved ones.

Our CEO, Keith Milton, said, “We're so proud of Clare and how she has developed with us over the last few years. She is becoming an amazing leader at Woodside Grange and has a brilliant future ahead of her”.

Developing qualifications with St Martins Care

Although Clare has been in the role for almost 3 years now, she says, “Every day is a school day”. With no day ever being the same, she has focused on continuously developing her knowledge and skill set through additional qualifications, including a Level 4 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Eager to learn, she is looking to move on to her Level 5 qualification shortly. This will further support her in her journey as a Quality Lead, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to lead and oversee services, ensuring high care standards.

Clare said, “St Martins has supported me throughout my journey, and without their support I would not have progressed. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to say, ‘You are doing a good job, and ‘You can do this’.”

Clare’s advice

When asked what advice she would give to someone starting a career in care, Clare shared, “Don’t ever think you are just a carer; you are so much more! If you can make a difference to one person's day, you're doing a great job.”

What about your career path?

CEO, Keith Milton, said “Clare is another great example of how anyone can have a great career in care if they really want to.”.

A career in care is rewarding, valuable, and full of potential. We provide countless opportunities for growth and development at St Martins Care.
