Dementia Care: How to Find Resources You Can Trust

When it comes to Dementia Care, finding the right advice and support can be incredibly overwhelming. With such varied information available online, it’s becoming increasingly challenging for carers, families, and people living with Dementia to find useful advice and resources centred around their unique needs.

Finding the Right Advice and Support

Here at St Martins Care, we understand the unique challenges associated with caring for someone with Dementia, as well as the struggles associated with living with Dementia in the UK.

In this blog, we’ll signpost a range of trusted Dementia care resources, so that you can find high-quality information, help and advice.

Why Trusted Dementia Care Resources Matter

While there is a lot of brilliant information and resources out there, it's important to understand that not everything you read will be completely accurate or apply to your specific situation.

Here’s how you can validate the information you’re reading:

  1. Look out for NHS-endorsed organisations.

  2. Choose charities with specialist expertise in Dementia care.

  3. Check if the information you’re reading is updated regularly.

  4. Prioritise support services with real people you can speak to.

By accessing trustworthy sources, you can ensure you get relevant, safe, and practical advice.

National Dementia Support Services

When you’re looking for Dementia care guidance, it helps to start with national organisations that are trusted, evidence-based, and widely recognised for their expertise.

These charities and services offer everything from 24-hour helplines, dedicated nurses and in-person advice, with many working with local care providers like St Martins Care to ensure you get the right help at the right time.

Alzheimer’s Society: The Ultimate Dementia Resource

Committed to ending the devastation caused by Dementia by providing support and up-to-date information, Alzheimer's Society is the UK’s largest Dementia charity.

With a dedicated Dementia Connect support line, regular newsletter and a Dementia Support Forum, it's a great resource for getting one-on-one advice, sharing experiences, and connecting with others.

They also have local branches where you can access face-to-face support and Dementia-friendly activities.

Dementia UK: Trusted Carer Support

Known for its focus and deep understanding of carer wellbeing, Dementia UK is a specialist Dementia nursing charity operating all across the UK.

They are also the charity behind Admiral Nurses; highly trained Dementia care nurses who work with families to provide specialist, one-to-one support for carers and families of those living with dementia.

Whether you’re looking for help with complex care needs, emotional support, or strategies for coping day-to-day, Admiral Nurses can make a real difference.

Age UK: Support and Advice Tailored for Older People

While not solely focused on Dementia, Age UK offers a wide range of valuable advice and practical help for older people and their families.

They can assist with benefits and financial guidance, arrange home adaptations to make living easier, and connect you with local support networks.

Finding Dementia Support Near You

While national Dementia organisations offer invaluable resources, many of the most practical services can be found locally.

From support groups and respite care to memory clinics and specialist nurses. Knowing where to look can save you time, reduce stress, and connect you with the right people faster.

Here’s how you can find high-quality support at a place most convenient to you.

Talk to Your GP

Speaking to your GP is a good first step when seeking Dementia support. They can assess symptoms, arrange memory tests, and refer you to a specialist.

They’ll also point you towards local services and offer advice on managing care at home.

Use the NHS Dementia Services Finder

The NHS Dementia Guide has a postcode search to help you find local memory clinics, community teams, care homes, and carer support services. It’s a reliable way to access trusted care near you.

Connect With Your Local Council

Local councils often provide Dementia-friendly services, from home adaptations to carer respite schemes. Contacting your adult social care team can open doors to practical help in your community.

Find Local Branches of National Charities

As previously touched upon, charities like Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, and Dementia UK run local groups, give in-person advice, and help with benefits. Their websites often have “Find local services” tools to make it easier to find help locally.

How St Martins Care Fits Into This Network

At St Martins Care, we’re passionate about caring for people with Dementia.
