Helen’s Journey: From Bank Care Assistant to Manager
At St Martins Care, we’re proud to support our staff in building fulfilling and rewarding careers.
One of the many inspiring journeys within our homes is that of Helen Clark, who joined us in 2023 and is now the Manager of Washington Manor.
A natural passion for caring
Helen’s passion for care began at a young age, having looked after her father during her school years. She completed both her NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care while still at school, laying the foundations for a future in care.
Following her studies, Helen explored other sectors including retail, hospitality, and even hairdressing. But after returning to work post-maternity, she found herself drawn back to care, working in the community and rediscovering what she loved most, supporting others.
Starting at Washington Manor
In 2023, Helen was ready for a new challenge. Encouraged by her partner, who also works at St Martins Care, she applied for a role as a Bank Care Assistant at Washington Manor.
From her very first days in the home, Helen’s dedication and natural ability to connect with residents shone through. She quickly moved into a part-time role, before progressing to a full-time Senior Care Assistant just a few months later.
Stepping into a leadership role
As a Senior Care Assistant, Helen took on added responsibilities, including writing care plans and working more closely with families and healthcare professionals. Her confidence and leadership skills grew quickly, and in January 2024, she was promoted to Deputy Manager.
Reflecting on the step up, Helen shared:
“I felt this was an amazing achievement. I absolutely loved having more responsibility and learning the new role.”
Promotion to Manager, February 2025
In February 2025, just over two years since joining us, Helen took on the role of Manager at Washington Manor. Her progression is a testament to her hard work, positive attitude and unwavering commitment to delivering excellent care.
Now leading the team, Helen ensures residents enjoy a happy, comfortable and safe environment.
Commenting on her journey so far, Helen had this to say:
“St Martins Care have supported me in all aspects of my career progression, it has been amazing knowing the management team have so much faith in me and feel I have something else to give to Washington Manor.”
Supporting our staff every step of the way
