Judy’s Journey: Supported Every Step from Care Assistant to Nurse Associate
At St Martins Care, we’re committed to helping our staff grow through continuous learning and career development.
Recently, we spoke to Judy Glenton to understand her journey from joining us at St Martins Care, to graduating as a Registered Nurse Associate.
Beginning a career in care
Judy began her career in care in her early twenties, inspired by her experiences supporting her family. From a young age, she helped care for her sister, who has Motor Neurone Disease, and she also witnessed her grandfather’s struggles with poor health. Having always found herself in caring roles, Judy felt that this path was where she truly belonged.
She joined St Martins Care in 2019 as a Care Assistant and quickly proved her dedication and skill. In 2020, she stepped up to lead the COVID Ward as Acting Senior Care Assistant. With a Diploma in Health and Social Care and the valuable experience she gained at Willow Green, Judy was soon promoted to Senior Care Assistant within the home’s residential unit.
Developing qualifications
With the support of the Senior Team, Judy joined our Trainee Nurse Associate Programme, working towards becoming a fully qualified and registered Nurse Associate.
Throughout her studies, Judy expanded her clinical knowledge while gaining valuable hands-on experience. By working alongside a Registered Nurse in the nursing unit, she was able to apply her learning in practice, creating a truly effective and enriching learning experience.
After two years of dedicated study, Judy qualified in February 2025 and is now a valued member of our clinical team. In her role, she draws on the skills and experience she has developed throughout her career in care, as well as the specialist knowledge gained during her training.
Judy’s advice
Constantly seeking opportunities to progress and develop her skills, Judy has successfully grown from a Care Assistant to a Nurse Associate, managing different units along the way.
Her advice to others starting out is, “to remember that care is a vocation, with each day being different, bringing new and exciting experiences. Although some days may be hard, don’t forget that you are making a difference, and you aren’t just a carer.”
What about your career in care?
Since the very beginning of her journey with us, Judy has been supported to progress, developing her qualifications, experience and skill set along the way. She said, “St Martins Care has indeed helped me in my progression, and without their support, I would have never had the chance to enrol on the Nurse Associate Program”.
Across our homes, our teams continuously support one another to grow and develop their skills. We’re committed to nurturing talent and providing clear pathways for career progression, offering plenty of opportunities for growth alongside dedicated support every step of the way.
