Laura’s Journey: Building a Career in Care Through Dedication
Following her promotion to Quality Lead, we spoke to Laura Amaci about her journey with St Martins Care so far.
Finding a passion for care
Laura’s career in care began with St Martins Care back in 2019, when she moved from Romania in search of a better life for her son. Having never worked in care before, her role as Care Assistant marked the beginning of a new chapter.
She started her career in care because she finds it rewarding, and enjoys making a difference in people’s lives. When asked about her motivations to pursue a career in care, Laura said , “Looking back, deciding to work in care was one of the best choices I’ve made for myself, my family, and the people I now have the privilege to support every day.
Career development
In her first role as a Care Assistant, Laura began her journey on the nursing floor, surrounded by unfamiliar responsibilities and a dedication to succeed. She noted that with the incredible support of her colleagues and management, she was able to learn how to provide compassionate and professional care, helping her grow her confidence and skills.
In 2023, shortly after completing her NVQ Level 3 qualification, her dedication and progress were recognised when she was promoted to Senior Care Assistant.
Most recently, this year, Laura was further promoted to a new role as a Quality Lead. This role allows her to contribute to the continuous improvement of care standards at St Martins Care. Within this role, she offers support to other staff at St Martins Care, helping to deliver the best service to our residents.
Laura’s advice
Joining the team in 2019 with no care experience, Laura has since earned two promotions and a new qualification, a testament to how far dedication, passion, and a supportive team can take you.
Her advice to those considering a career in care is, “You don’t need to have experience to start; what matters most is your willingness to learn. Every day brings new situations, and you’ll grow with each one.”
What about your career in care?
Since the very beginning of her journey with us, Laura explained that she felt completely supported in her role, “When I started, everything was new and sometimes overwhelming, but I was never left to face challenges alone. The management and senior management were always there to guide me, answer my questions, and encourage me to keep learning.”
At St Martins Care, we believe in nurturing talent and recognising potential, especially in those who will make our care homes and residents’ lives better. We’re proud to provide countless opportunities for growth and development, as well as extensive support throughout your whole journey.
