Supporting our people through The Reflection Room

Why we are introducing The Reflection Room and creating space for important conversations.

At St Martins Care, we believe that supporting our colleagues is key to providing the best level of care. When people feel heard, valued and supported, they're better able to support the residents and families who rely on them every day.

That's why we're introducing The Reflection Room, a new monthly staff forum that brings colleagues together to reflect, share experiences, learn from one another and discuss the topics that shape life in care.

Launching the conversation with Men in Care

Every Reflection Room will explore a different topic that reflects the experiences of our colleagues and the changing landscape of care.

Our first session focused on Men in Care, opening a conversation about the experiences of men working in the sector, challenging stereotypes, supporting the needs of male residents and encouraging greater diversity across our workforce.

By starting this conversation, we hope to create a better understanding of the different experiences within our teams and continue building a supportive workplace.

This session also marks the beginning of a wider Men in Care Support Programme, which will provide practical wellbeing resources, peer support and opportunities for ongoing discussion across St Martins Care.

Why this matters

Creating space for colleagues to talk openly, share experiences and learn from one another helps bring our teams closer together and supports the culture we’re building at St Martins Care.

Not everyone finds traditional wellbeing programmes easy to access or useful, which is why The Reflection Room is kept informal, inclusive and focused on conversation.

What it means for residents and families

For residents and their loved ones, this is about ensuring that the people providing care are supported to do their best work. When colleagues feel connected, listened to and valued, it creates stronger teams and a more positive environment for everyone.

Ultimately, investing in our people helps us continue delivering compassionate, person-centred care to every resident and their family.

Looking ahead

The Reflection Room will become a regular monthly feature, covering a range of topics linked to wellbeing, inclusion, professional development and life in care.

As Hayley Robertshaw, CEO of St Martins Care, explains:

“These sessions are about creating space to listen, learn, and reflect together. Every colleague’s experience matters, and by having open conversations we can continue building a supportive culture for our staff and the people we care for.”

We know that when we support our people, we strengthen the care we provide for residents and families.
