Transforming Guisborough Manor

At Guisborough Manor, creating a warm, welcoming environment has always been at the heart of resident care. A full renovation project began at the start of 2025, focused on transforming the home’s communal spaces into areas that feel both modern and comforting.

A Vision for Better Living

We wanted to update the communal spaces, using colour, texture and soft furnishings to create that ‘homely’ feel and enhance the environment. Communal spaces are important for residents to have social interaction and enjoy each other’s company. At St Martins Care, it is important to us that our care homes are bright, vibrant, modern environments that can support emotional well-being.

Extensive research into therapeutic design informed the project, particularly the use of colour for zoning and wayfinding. A calming palette of blues and greens was chosen, flowing throughout the home in varying shades to create a uniform and cohesive space. We also incorporated items that would have familiarity and promote a sense of well-being for our residents.

Thoughtfully Designed Spaces

The renovation includes work on all communal lounges, corridors, doors, and the reception area. We have zoned the spaces to create a series of distinct yet connected spaces where residents can read, watch TV, listen to music, or simply enjoy each other’s company.

New furniture, seating, and accessories have been purchased for the renovations, supporting the mission to create a homely, comfortable and modern space for everyone to enjoy.

Minimising Disruption, Maximising Comfort

While renovations can be disruptive, the process at Guisborough Manor has been carefully managed by the team. Work has been carried out in stages to ensure residents always have access to communal areas.

Residents have even enjoyed the experience, interacting with visiting tradespeople and watching the transformation unfold.

Looking Ahead

With completion expected shortly, the transformation is already making a meaningful difference.

As Hayley, CEO, shares:

“Refurbishing Guisborough Manor has been a labour of love and thoroughly enjoyable to see a tired and dated environment transformed into a modern space that is warm and welcoming. I love visiting the home, seeing the residents socialising and enjoying the spaces we have created for them.”
