A Year of Care and Community: 2025 at St Martins Care
At St Martins Care, the people in our homes and those who support them, are at the heart of everything we do. 2025 was an incredible year for both residents and our teams, and we want to showcase some of these amazing achievements.
A happy, comfortable and safe environment
In the past year, 429 people chose to make a St Martins Care home their place to live. For some, it was a short stay to recover and regain independence. For others, it marked the start of a new chapter where they could feel safe, supported, and surrounded by familiar, friendly faces.
Of those who moved on from our homes, 48% returned home or transitioned to another care option, such as home care. We are proud to play a part in supporting residents to regain independence, confidence, and control over their daily lives, helping them take the next step in their journey with dignity and reassurance.
Investing in what matters most
Investing in our facilities is just one way we maintain our high standards of care. This year, we improved 14 communal spaces in our homes, ensuring our homes remain welcoming, safe, and comfortable places for residents to live and our teams to work.
A dedicated group of individuals
In addition, we invested in our team. Our teams are what make our care special; the care our residents receive is shaped by their skills, confidence, and dedication.
In 2025, colleagues across our six care homes completed 9,165 eLearning courses and attended 3,353 workshops, strengthening knowledge and skills to deliver safe, compassionate care. Their commitment also helped us retain our 5* Environmental Health rating across all homes. With practical tools like iStumble and the Eagle lifting cushion, they prevented over 1,400 long lies, keeping residents safer and supported when it mattered most.
We were incredibly proud to see our CEO, Hayley Robertshaw, was awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Health and Social Care Management. This well-deserved recognition reflects her leadership, dedication, and commitment to meaningful, inclusive change across the health and social care sector. The fellowship celebrates the values, vision, and resilience she brings to St Martins Care and the future of care.
A team that stays and grows
63% of the colleagues who joined our team in the past year are still with us today. This continuity means residents see familiar faces, build trusting relationships, and enjoy consistent, compassionate care.
In fact, 155 members of our team have been with us for over five years, and our longest-serving colleague has been part of the team for 19 years. Having a team with long-serving members makes a real difference. It helps our colleagues build expertise, confidence, and compassion, while giving residents and their families the reassurance of familiar, trusted faces.
We are also proud to support the next generation of carers by welcoming the latest cohort of North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust apprentice paramedics into our six care homes. Through their placements, they gain valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the care sector, while working alongside our teams and residents.
Looking ahead
In 2026, we will continue to focus on delivering exceptional care, supporting each other, and driving positive change in everything we do.
